Replacing the Intake Manifold Gasket

Leaks in the gap between the head and the intake manifold can cause performance issues and worse. Our 440H, Ruby, has the Power Pak option, which means it has a two barrel carburetor:



Notice the gunk on the edge of the intake manifold? Our guess is that this is created by air seeping by, and a buildup of oily crud gathers in the crack. The intake manifold is aluminum. Alcoa, no less:

The new intake manifold gasket has a bulge along this same area:



I like to coat gaskets with Permatex Ultra Copper spray:



Here is a new carburetor gasket installed. The intake manifold is all cleaned up and ready to go on the engine.
