Day Zero Engine Compartment




Here are some pictures of the engine compartment on the day we got it.

The top of the head towards the back:



A view over the coil. Notice how the red wire goes from the negative on the battery to the engine block? The black wire is connected to positive and goes to the starter. I plan to switch this. The vehicle is not positive ground, and even if it was, this would be backwards. I think a previous owner didn't really care about the color. For batteries that can spew out 450 amps of current, keeping your wire colors correct is important:

The dipstick is something I hunted for for awhile. What looked to me like a filter was the top of the dipstick:

A view of where the oil goes in (where the dipstick comes out):

The battery tray is rusted out. No surprise there.



I figure this is a heater control valve of some kind:
