A Peek at the Lifters




One thing about installing a new head gasket is that you have to make sure that the push rods set in the tappets (lifters) correctly. Here is a view through the tappet cover:

The push rods are all lined up. Notice the pushrod on the right is a wee bit different? I had to replace one of the pushrods because it was bent. The new one from Egge is hollow. The thermostat was missing, so the engine was having overheating problems. Some of the passages were clogged through the head. This engine has had a troubled life. It appears, though, that the bore is standard. I don't think the engine has been rebuilt. Somebody went through a lot of pain with quite a few repairs:

The tappet cover is back on. There is a rubber grommet that goes over the stud. I put the washer and nut over this:
