The engine was firing on the minority of cylinders. The plugs were kind of funky. Also, the man we bought it from said that he hadn't touched it in 12 years. I looked at the plugs and noticed they were Autolite 86's. I went down to the auto parts store and asked for tuneup parts for a '63 rambler. The store had nothing at all. I asked if they had Autolite 86's, and they did. I took these home and did some more research. I finally figured that these were the wrong plugs. They had a 3/8 inch reach, but the ones that were supposed to go in (Champion H10) had a 7/16 inch reach. I returned the plugs and asked for Autolite 216 plugs. No luck. I tried some other places. Still no luck anywhere. I did find a cap, points, and condenser, which helped the engine run a lot better. A very helpful guy at B&B auto parts in Burien, WA pulled out some old books and came up with KEM parts: points, TV59, condenser 84U, and Distributor Cap, 1433. I also found a good source for the plugs at a lawnmower supply shop online. It turns out that the modern use for these plugs is in lawnmowers and chainsaws. So, you can get them, and they are pretty cheap.
