Rebuilding the 196 L-Head Exhaust Manifold - Part3

I cut the old end cap off of the previous pipe using a 3 inch cutoff disk and an air tool:



To remove the cap, cut two grooves in the side:



Between the grooves I ground down the metal using a grinder attachment. The one thing that did give out on my cheap rotary tool was the chuck. I found that one way to prolong the life was to put a thin strip of metal between the chuck and the bit. The metal is from a 1.44 diskette. Again, wear eye protection. You don't want bits of metal flying around and hitting you in the eye!



The cap is only weleded in a couple of places, and it doesn't go through much, so I just pried where I ground the metal down and cut the grooves:
